Sundays for me were my favourite day, my one day off and for most of my adult life followed a certain regime:
1. Wake up with a banging headache
2. Roll over and see which one of my jazzy friends had decided to have a sleepover
3. Check phone for collateral damage
4. Cringe at collateral damage
5. Find water
6. Get showered dressed and head out to find the rest of my jazzy crew who have been able to make it thus far.
Which brings me too my subject of the Sunday roast.... My beautiful Sunday roast ..... Sticking to my clean eating regime 6 days a week meant Sunday was my time to get down and dirty with my cheat meal and my roast was just that, and literally the HIGHLIGHT of my week.
Full on chicken roast with Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and gravy, followed by hot fudge brownie with cream, creeeeeeeeeammmm
It was these Sunday delights that actually one started to realise she could be celiac and allergic to life, as three strange events would always happen
1. I would instantly swell up to the size of a hot air ballon.
2. I would pass out cold 9 hours solid sleep post meal
3. I would then wake up like I had been hit over the head with a bat, no alcohol required.
So when discovering my allergies and the risk of cross contamination when eating out, my Sunday sessions were over.
So you have two options... Turn into a complete recluse and refuse to go meet your friends while they chow down on a whole loada gluten OR learn to deal with it.
Sunday Funday SOS
1. Leave nothing to chance, celiac don't trust a soul, even if the menu states gluten free if the kitchen even contains gluten, there is always chance of cross contamination.
2. Eat before you leave, don't sit at dinner growling at your compadres... Fill yourself up.
3. Turn up a little late to save your self the torture of the menu analysis convo.
4. Order a coffee when you arrive, because everything is better with coffee or wine if your not allergic to that too, when the waiter starts to ask questions just inform him your allergic to life, they ll leave you alone.
5. Take a sneaky gluten free snack in your bag.. For when it all gets too much, I'm queen of the emergency cashew!!
6. When dinner is over and everyone's on full bloat and feeling guilty about smashing two desserts, stand up feeling mega skinny and walk out like a boss
